A Gaffer drinks here
| To be honest, I didn't know that a gaffer was the chief electrician in a motion-picture or television production unit, and I was orginally gonna use thing photo under the LIGHT catogegy. It wasn't until the photo walk was just about over that we were told that the place was the Lamplighter Public House. I was the only one to take a picture of this, so I'm pretty proud bout that. For editing, I just lightened the photo, being a picture of the Lamplighter and all. |
BOOTS
Found this on an alleyway wall, well there were several signs like this but I'd say this one is my favorite one. The green diamond makes the sign pop, just is why I chose this sign to be my model. I used the neon glow effect on this image on gaoler's mews, just to see what it would look like. And BOOM, this gorgeous image was born! Gassy JackI was a bit surprised when I found out that a cigar stop was on the school photo list. I chose this angle to shoot my photo because I was able to grab the front sign of Gassy Jack, as well as the restaurant and the lamppost beside it. I tinted the image using orange and pink colouring. You get this vintage feel from the photo. I'm hot & SteamyWhat says I'm hot & steamy better than a sweat shop? When I saw this in a store window, my mind went straight to 'this is so hot and steamy.' A sweat shop means sweat and being hot. I do wish that the lettering was either red or orange or yellow. But either way, this photo is up for interpretation. ParkLight | I really like this charcoal effect I applied to this photo of hanging boots. It kind of looks like the boots of a giant being hung outside a store. The black charcoal background is both unique and bland. What would I change bout this photo? Perhaps keep the original coloring of the pole and tree to the right of the image. Gaoler's MewsGritGrit. It can mean and be so many different things. Grit can be dirt, grim, or sand but I chose to shoot a picture of grit's character. The character of the painted whale at this angle reflects on the artist themselves. They picked a wonderful location, though you can't see it. I really like this angle because you see the whale and the different shades of purples and blues, but maybe I should've shown more of the artwork and less of the seating from the restaurant next door. But overall, love this photo! My first thought of taking a photo of 'park' original was to take a picture of a park or grassy area. But Gastown isn't the kind of place for those kind of 'parks.' But there were many parking signs, you know for all those tourists coming down there. And when I saw this parking sign, it really captured my eyes being off the ground like this. The bright blue letters makes the word pop. That's why I didn't really edit the photo much. Planes |
This stoplight has many lights, green lights, yellow lights and red lights, being three lights in one. I used the neon glow effect once more because I thought that dimming the lighting with a different lightning texture would make the image more interesting. I was right! | I know this isn't your typical plane but to be honest, I couldn't get a snap of a plane in the sky. I was lucky enough to snap a picture of this helicopter. But really, aren't helicopters are in the same family of planes? They're probably cousins. I believe I used neon glow again, because it enhances the photo while giving it off-natural glow. |
Stairs
This was apart of the second round of photos I took in Blood Alley. There was locked gate separating the alley from a whole wall of Vancouver based graffiti. I took more than one photo of this amazing wall but I really enjoyed this photo because it shows city building at night, the city lights glowing against the water. Plus BC place is a beautiful addition. The lovely green in the corner, adds more color to the image. WheelsBoy, was this clock working hard? I mean, everyone was taking pictures of it. I chose to make this image black and white because I thought it would make the image seem older from all that working. I do wish though that I maybe have made the trees green again. Might add more to the image. WThis to me is the stereotypical tourist pose. I believe that the photo of stereotypical tourist pose is a tourist taking a photo. One of my fellow photographers was taking a picture of the big boots, fit for a giant. I used the same effect on here as I did on the staircase. I think I should've did this effect on the trees as well. Maybe some greenery would brighten up this image. But overall, awesome photo. Photographer: Frances S. M [July 2015] | These stairs have quite the story. I took this image in Blood Alley, not the most welcoming place to be, even during the day. But as soon as I saw this staircase, I wanted the best photo I could take. Even with someone shooting up in the far right corner. I love both the elegance and the old feeling that goes along with it. I don't know, this might be one of my favorite photos, especially when the edit I applied. It took a lot of practice to master this effect, but look at how it turned out. The graffiti colors gives it a ghetto feeling, while the greyscale gives the picture a vintage look. Like I said before, this is by far one of my favorite photos. Hope you like it too. VancouverThese colorful wheels are super cool. I'm actually surprised I got such a great photo. I love how the gold bike is in the front, showing off the most color. I mean, a gold bike, a light blue bike, a bike with red wheels, those colors really match. This image is full of color and texture contrasts, which is why I like this photo. Working HardThere were so many W's around Gastown, so why did I chose this one? Maybe because the W is red surrounded with swirls. I don't even know what this W stands for but doesn't it really matter? Well, I kind of do wish that I knew. All that matters is that this W is super cool. For the effect, I believe I just added some contrast to the image. Stereotypical Tourist Pose |
